Nerlens Noel Traded to Dallas Mavericks

Detroit Pistons, Noel Agree to Contract Buyout

Free Agent Center Signs with Playoff Contender

Five months after Nerlens Noel publicly expressed his frustration with the crowded frontcourt of the Philadelphia 76ers, the situation has finally been resolved.

On Monday, the Detroit Pistons and Noel agreed to a contract buyout, allowing the 28-year-old center to join a playoff contender before the March 1 deadline.

Noel had been linked to several teams, including the Miami Heat and Los Angeles Clippers, but ultimately chose to sign with the Dallas Mavericks.

The Mavericks had reportedly offered Noel a four-year, $70 million contract, but he turned it down in hopes of securing a larger deal in free agency this summer.

Noel's departure from Detroit comes after he filed a lawsuit against his agent, Rich Paul, and Klutch Sports Group, alleging that they had mishandled his contract negotiations.

The lawsuit was dismissed on Tuesday by Dallas-based district court judge Jane J. Boyle.

Noel's signing with the Mavericks is a significant boost to their playoff hopes. The team has struggled in the paint all season, and Noel's size and defensive presence should provide a much-needed upgrade.

With the addition of Noel, the Mavericks are now considered to be one of the favorites to win the Western Conference.
